Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19)

Missions Philosophy

We believe that missions is a primary responsibility of the local church and that we are to be involved corporately in a cooperative program of leading the lost to Christ locally, regionally and globally. We believe that every born-again child of God has been given a personal mandate from Jesus Christ to share the gospel with every creature and to make disciples and therefore, should be personally involved in the missions endeavors of the church.

We believe that we are personally participating in the ministry of missions when we give ourselves personally to go to the lost with the gospel and when we financially and prayerfully support others who go in our place.

We believe that the missionaries whom we support must be actively engaged in leading the lost to Christ and organizing them into independent, Bible believing Baptist churches that would consistently reflect the doctrine, standards and purpose of First Baptist Church. Our goal in missions is to replicate ourselves on the mission field.

Every missionary whom we consider for support must agree with our doctrinal statement as well as our standards for personal conduct and separation as fundamental Baptists.

A missionary seeking support must be first commissioned and sent by his home church. He must evidence that he has been properly trained and prepared for the work of the ministry and must give an adequate explanation of his personal call to missions and burden for his specific field of ministry. It is our strong recommendation that a missionary candidate associate himself with a Fundamental mission board which provides a good degree of accountability and practical support while on the field. The missionary is commissioned and sent by his home church and is an extension of their ministry; therefore, the mission board is subordinate to the sending church in determining the direction and scope of the ministry.

We expect our missionaries to regularly report to their supporting churches and keep them informed of the progress of the ministry, the problems being encountered, personal needs and prayer requests as well as blessings received.

We believe a missionary normally functions as a church planting pastor and therefore must meet the biblical qualifications of a pastor. We acknowledge that there are also support ministries that are not necessarily pastoral in function, but should be closely associated with the work and needs of the church planting ministry.

In the event a missionary changes mission boards, or fields of service, or changes any of his doctrinal or personal convictions; First Baptist Church must be notified. We reserve the right to amend or drop our support of the missionary in such instances.
